Yesterday during our Dean’s Council meeting, we spent almost the entire two hours on team building. We prayed for each other, reported successes and answers to our prayers throughout the year, affirmed each other, and communicated our greatest needs from a team perspective for the coming year.
From a task perspective, we didn’t get a lot done. We didn’t talk about strategy or logistics or individual to-do’s and areas of responsibilities. But from a team perspective, our time together was invaluable. We strengthened relationships, gained a greater understanding of each person’s value to the team, and recommitted to our unified pursuit of our vision.
It’s so easy to get caught up in the day-to-day details that we neglect development of true team. But while the day-to-day work is urgent, the work of team building is critically important, and therefore requires intentional commitment and regular time.
No matter how busy you are with tasks, make sure to also take time for team.
