The 100 Largest U.S. Charities

Last week while doing some research for a book, I came across a list of the 100 largest U.S. charities (2012) at Forbes.com. Here are the top 25:

  1. United Way
  2. Salvation Army
  3. Catholic Charities USA
  4. Feeding America
  5. American Red Cross
  6. Food for the Poor
  7. American Cancer Society
  8. World Vision
  9. YMCA
  10. Goodwill Industries
  11. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
  12. AmeriCares Foundation
  13. Boys & Girls Clubs of America
  14. Habitat for Humanity International
  15. Compassion International
  16. Nature Conservancy
  17. United States Fund for UNICEF
  18. American Heart Association
  19. Campus Crusade for Christ International
  20. Feed the Children
  21. Boy Scouts of America
  22. Samaritan’s Purse
  23. Lutheran Services in America
  24. CARE USA
  25. Save the Children Federation

Most of these were not surprising, although I had never heard of a few of the organizations in the Top 25.

You can see the entire list here. (St. Mary’s Food Bank Alliance comes in at #100.)
