Mental Illness & The Church

843040The tragic suicide of Rick Warren’s son earlier this month has sparked a lot of great dialogue about mental illness, Christians and the church. Coincidentally, my friend and colleague Amy Simpson has just released a much-needed book on the subject, Troubled Minds: Mental Illness and the Church’s Mission (2013, InterVarsity).

I was honored to be interviewed by Amy about my experience growing up in a home with mental illness (both parents), and I know first-hand what it feels like to struggle with the debilitating illnesses of anxiety and depression. The current discussion is long overdue, and I am thankful for those who are speaking out about this critical issue. In addition to Amy’s book, here is Adrian Warnock’s excellent series of posts in the wake of Matt Warren’s death, from the perspective of a Christian psychiatrist.

May the conversation continue…
