And The Papacy Goes To…

Pope Francis, formerly Cardinal Jorge Bergoglio of Argentina.

Vatican Pope

The 76-year-old Francis is the first Jesuit and the first non-European in modern times to lead the Roman Catholic Church.

It of course remains to be seen how he will lead the Church, but I like a Pope who: chooses an apartment instead of the archbishop’s palace; cooks his own meals; declines a chauffeured limousine; chooses to remain standing at the level of the cardinals instead of on a platform above them once he becomes Pope; identifies with St. Francis of Assisi; and in his first act as Pope, asks the people to pray for him, instead of him blessing them.
