Today is Independence Day in the United States, a celebration of the day in 1776 when American colonists declared their independence from British rule.
Our family already enjoyed our local “Freedom Festival” last weekend. Today we will celebrate in Chicago with dear friends, enjoying Chicago-style hot dogs, perhaps a picnic on Lake Michigan, and fireworks at Navy Pier.
However (and even whether) you choose to celebrate today, please remember those who do you enjoy the tremendous freedom we take for granted in the United States and let us work to release those who are held captive by governments, by spiritual oppression, by emotional wounds, by their fellow man and woman. Freedom is not just an American value, it is a Christian one, as “wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom” (2 Cor. 3:17).
Let freedom ring!
