Life Theories: D.Min.’s and Ph.D.’s

Is it just my experience, or do people with D.Min.’s really like to emphasize the “Dr.” title before their name, more than people with Ph.D.’s who are content to put the letters after their name?

Titles don't matter much anymore — in fact, I think they work against you! However, the lead pastor of my church insists I am known as Dr. George (D.Min.) because I am the only one on staff with any sort of theological education. He thinks of me as the pastor/theologian in residence and so he wants me identified that way. But I'm a little uncomfortable when people call me that all the time and usually sign my name on notes and letters to congregants as "George". Besides, when someone says Dr. Cladis, I look around for my dad and brother, both of whom have Ph.Ds!

More to your point: if any of us — Ph.D,, D.Min., Ed.D.s, etc need the title to feel better about ourselves, it doesn't work. : )

    Angie,
I've found it to be guys with an ordination paper on their wall like to emphasize that as well, maybe it's an insecurity issue? It's not, is it? Right?

    Best regards!
